Lumen is feeling much better today and is acting a lot more like a one year old dog. Lumen weighs about 50 lbs and is all legs so she's a bit silly to watch when she starts to play like a puppy. Sometimes Lumen doesn't understand how much bigger she is and starts to play too rough. This scares me a little. It's not like when King Lear was here and I could put him in his place!
Today we went to the dog park. Lumen wanted to run, but she had to stay on the leash because she was spayed yesterday. Lumen did pretty well on the leash. There was a bit of pulling at first but she calmed down after a few minutes. The dog park is a really exciting place and Lumen needs some exercise so all things considered Mom thought she did pretty well. Lumen politely greeted all the dogs we saw. The same for most of the people that we met. A couple of times people tried to greet her by extending a hand and she would back away. The first time it happened Mom asked the man if he would come back and really try to greet and pet her. He did and Lumen backed away from him again. His dogs were playing around us and Lumen decided she was more interested in greeting them. During this time Lumen was right up beside the guy and didn't mind him at all. It seems she more shy then scared. Mom thinks with more socializing Lumen will gain confidence and she'll be fine.
Lumen slept all night in the big kennel last night. Mom is a very light sleeper and is pretty sure that Lumen didn't leave the kennel all night. She could have slept anywhere, except on the bed. Which of course is where Lumen would really like to be.
Lumen seems to think that if she just has her front half on the bed it doesn't count. She 'sat' like this with just her front legs on the bed for about 15 minutes. Then she tried to sneak the rest of her up too. Mom said no, so Lumen just gave up and went to her kennel. There's a duvet and two blankets in there so it's not really too bad. Not nice enough that I'm going to sleep in there though!
What a beauty! Show her the ropes Rupert, you have done so well with all the other foster pups you have helped this year! ;)
