Day 4/96 Welcome Beaker and Honeydew, & Lily, Dahlia, Violet, Rose and Marygold

Well, lots of new to share again today!

Firstly, Fiona went to my good buddy Gord and Shirley's house on Thursday night.  Mom has received a couple of updates and it sounds like she is settling in quite well.  Of course, she's fallen in love with my good buddy Gord.  This is no surprise as all animals love him.  Ike has hissed at Fiona a couple of times.  We already know that Ike can be a bit cranky and he's already lived with Fiona for a few days while he was staying with us so we know he'll come around.  Shirley has said that Fiona has wandered around meowing a few times. Undoubtably she is looking for her babies, but she did that here too.  She would call for her babies and they would ignore her so she shouldn't be too stressed that she's calling for them in another house and no one is coming.

Secondly, Seamus has been adopted!!  She will be leaving shortly to go to her forever home. The couple adopting her are very nice and I definitely approve of them.  They played with Seamus for a long time yesterday and boy was she tired.  Seamus is going to have lots of fun playing at their house and will have two cat siblings to play with as well.

Lastly, we have new fosters! And there's a whole bunch of them!!  Nine kittens arrived on Wednesday night;  a litter of four and a litter of five.  The litter of four are about 7 weeks old, but the litter of 5 are only about 4-5 weeks old.  They were only supposed to be here temporarily until permanent foster homes could be found but they were all supposed to be older.  This would allow them to be divided up into smaller groups to go to other foster homes.  When Mom saw how little the one litter was she decided that they needed to stay together.  On Thursday night a couple came to pick up two of the older kittens. Kelly has a magic touch because up until when she tried, one of the younger kittens hadn't eaten anything.  Mom also decided that the younger kittens were following the older kittens lead on stuff so perhaps the remaining two older ones should stay to help the younger ones learn.  Needless to say, it's a bit crazy in the cat room!  The kittens miss their Moms a lot and are desparate for snuggles.  They are all eating, but Mom says she'd like to see them to eat and drink more.  And learn to use the litter box!

Here's a video of the kittens the first night they arrived.

Mom has some more pictures but her cameras are in with the kittens and they're all sleeping.  Mom says she's learned one valuable lesson that all those Moms out there with 2 legged babies already know...never wake a sleeping baby!

Day 81/92/101 Fiona, Kieran and Kiefer Have Been Adopted!

It's seems like I'm always making excuses about why it's taken Mom so long to update.  She's been studying for an exam this week and promises to update more frequently after the weekend.  But we've got lots of news to share!  A family came to see the gang on Friday and the son immediately fell in love with Kieran.  He had his heart set on Kieran, even though he played mostly with Kiefer.  The kittens were pretty shy, but Kiefer was the first to come out of his shell and play with the visitors.  The Mom thought that Kiefer might be a better fit because they already have two black cats that they can hardly tell apart and a third might add to the confusion.  After a (very) short time they thought that maybe they would take them both!  Mom said they didn't have to make a decision on the spot. They should go home, talk it over and make sure they all agreed on whatever decision was made.  C called Mom later that evening and said that, yes, they would take them both.  How exciting for Kieran and Kiefer.  They'll be able to grow up together and wouldn't be lonely having left the rest of their litter mates.  Kieran and Kiefer left for their forever home on Saturday.  Mom got a call from C yesterday letting her know that the kittens were doing great and were trying to become friends with their existing two cats.  The older cats weren't quite sure what to make of the kittens but Mom is sure they'll all be best friends in no time.

My best buddy Gord and Shirley have decided to adopt Fiona.  They've had their eyes on her for quite some time now, but wanted to see if someone would adopt Valentine and Fiona.  Now they've decided that they just can't live without her so they're going to adopt her.  We're sure that Valentine is going to go to a great home where there's a buddy for him so we're happy that Fiona will still be part of our family.  Fiona is going to move to their house tomorrow night.  Although Mom has been discouraging Fiona, she has still been nursing the kittens.  She going to go to the Taylors as a Foster to Adopt.  This means that Fiona will still be an AARCS cat until she is spayed and then my best buddy Gord and Shirley can adopt her.  This will allow Fiona to 'dry up'.  I have no idea what this means, but Mom says it's all OK.

AND...I'm not done yet.  Seamus has someone coming to visit her on Saturday!  Pretty soon our house will be almost empty.  Mom says not to worry, it'll be filled back up in no time.

Mom took a few last picture of Kieran and Kiefer before the left

Not surprising Kiefer is with his buddy Seamus.

And Kieran is with his buddy Kenna.

Day 76/87/96 More Adoption Applications

Mom hasn't heard from the people interesting in Valentine but the good news is that Mom got another adoption application last night.  The family doesn't have a preferred AARCS cat in mind so C is coming today to visit the whole gang!

Look at the picture that Holly from Brindleberry Pet Photography took of the kittens. Isn't this the most awesome picture you've ever seen! I'm sure this is when I was helping her take pictures.

Mom brought home a new toy for the fosters.  This is what it looks like anytime something new gets introduced.  Cats sure are curious. I got a bone, so don't worry about me not being included in the gift giving.

Last week Mom got an update from Lumen's Mom letting us know how she's doing.  Can you believe Lumen was adopted over a year ago?  It doesn't seem like it's been that long.  We've received a few updates over the past year from Lumen's Mom and we're always excited to hear how she's doing. As you can see, Lumen is loving her forever home. Lumen also has a new two legged brother!  Lumen's Mom has sent some pics and it looks like Lumen is a great big sister!

We get some updates from a couple of our previous foster's new family.  It's great to hear how everyone is doing and sometimes wish we knew how everyone else was doing too.  If you've adopted one of the dogs/cats we've fostered we'd love to hear how they are doing.  Mom says you can leave a comment and she'll make arrangements to get in touch.

Day 73/84/93/ The Kittens are up for Adoption

Yesterday the kittens went to the Vet to be spayed/neutered.  I told them that it really wasn't all that bad and to be brave.  The girls at the Vet's office said that overall they all did very well.  Seamus was a bit annoyed at everyone and even hissed at one of the girls.  Seamus has never hissed at anyone, not even me so she must have been really upset!  Val, Fiona and I checked them all out when they got home last night and everyone seemed to be OK.  They were very hungry so they had a bit of food and then everyone napped for the rest of the night. Today everyone is back to normal and running around like crazy.

Since they have now been spayed or neutered they are now up for adoption.  Make sure you go to the AARCS website to check out their profiles and see all the great pictures that Holly took of them!

I'm really starting to like the kittens and we hang out on the couch together all the time.  This picture is for my Grandpa...this one's a girl!

Mom went to Costco the other day and the fosters think the best thing she comes home with is the box! Everyone was in this box at one time or another. Valentine looks pretty comfortable in the box don't you think?

The kittens are big enough to get into the tub, so of course it's one of their favorite places to play.  They love the tub almost as much as Valentine does!

Speaking of Valentine, Mom talked to the people interesting in adopting him today.  They are going to figure out the best time to come and see him, which will either be tomorrow or next Tuesday. So it'll be a bit more time before we know if he's going to be adopted or not.

Day 71/82/91 Valentine has an Application

Wow, Valentine has been with us for 82 days.  That's the longest foster ever! Well except for Fiona, but she hasn't been up for adoption yet. Valentine hasn't been up on the AARCS website this whole time, but still, it's about time someone submitted an adoption application on this great guy.  Mom received the application last night and she's waiting to hear from the people interested in adopting him.  They already have three cats so Mom is happy that he's potentially going to a house where he'll have other cats to keep him company.  He's such a friendly guy we're sure he'd have no problems fitting in with any other cats.  Valentine has been to a couple adoptathons and he's always wanted to say hello to the other cats.

Valentine has been helping around the house.  He's taken over the roll of "Watcher of the Neighbourhood" when I'm out with Mom.

I know this is an exhausting job so I'm not surprised that Valentine is very tired by the end of the day...well, the middle of the afternoon really.  He likes to rest up so that he's wide awake when it gets dark.

Yesterday Holly from Bridleberry Pet Photography came to take pictures of Val, Fiona and the kittens. She's the same photographer that took pictures of Sierra, Gio and Alley and I was glad that I finally got to meet her!  I did a quality check of everything in her camera bags and tried to help her take some pictures but Mom said I wasn't helping. The kittens did very well. They were crazy and running around, but overall they sat still long enough to hopefully take some good pictures. Why do they need pictures?  They'll be going up for adoption on Monday!  They're going to be spayed/neutered on Monday and then they'll go up for adoption. It's had to believe they've been with us for 10 week already.  They've grown so much and are just starting to get to an age where they want to play with me so I'll be sad to see them go.  Mom says I shouldn't get too sad because she has a surprise in store for me. I hope it's a new bone!

The 'kittens' got a new toy from one of the other AARCS foster homes.  As you can see Valentine really likes it too!  Seamus has managed to roll this from the den, into the kitchen and then into the office.

It seems everyone wants to help out around the house. Mom was doing some card making and Kiefer thought he should help pick out the paper.

Stay tuned to hear how Valentine's adoption application turns out!

Day 63/74/83 BIG NEWS!!!

I'M A BIG BROTHER!!

We all knew it was going to happen one day and today is that day.  Mom and I have adopted Kenna! Kenna will be spayed on Monday and then she will be officially adopted.  Mom has been wanting to adopt Kenna for awhile now, but I wasn't sure.  I've still been keeping my distance from the kittens because I don't like it when Fiona gets mad at me.  Mom was worried that I didn't really like cats any more, but that's not the case at all.  I just wanted to wait to play with them until they were ready. The kittens are bigger now and they want to interact with me.  They are starting to run with me and Mom says one day I'm gong to get ninja'd.  I don't know what that is, but Mom says it's likely going to scare the crap out of me. Anyway, last night I even got into a play bow and tried to play with Kenna.  And I let Kenna nap on top of me when I was beside Mom on the couch so that we could both be touching Mom.  I know when Kenna gets even bigger that we are going to be best friends!

Mom says this is why I'm such a great foster brother. Mom filled my food bowl first the other day and Seamus was the first one to it.  I'm so nice that I let him eat my food. Well, only a bit of it because Mom said dog food isn't good for kittens...but I would have let him eat it all!

It's pretty uncommon that all the cats are asleep at the same time and even more rare that they are all in the same spot.  Mom managed to get a rare picture of everyone together, even if they are all sleeping.  Well, except for Kieran who opened his eyes long enough to see what was going on.

The kittens have discovered Fiona and Valentine's favorite sleeping spot; the dining room chairs.  Here are Kenna, Kiefer and Fiona all sharing one.  Waaay in the back on another chair is Valentine.

Valentine is such a sweet guy.  He loves the kittens and loves to snuggle up and have a nap with Fiona too.

Day 57/68/75

It's been a pretty uneventful week around home.  It was quite hot a couple of days and a walk around the block was as much as I could handle.  Mom got out my pool though!  I splashed around and felt so much better.  Then it rained a few days so we've been hanging out inside a lot.  Today I got to go for a good long romp at the park.  I spent a lot of time in the river and now Mom says I stink and tomorrow I'm going to get a bath.  I'm OK with this because I really like getting baths!

Here are Kiefer and Kieran sleeping on the couch on the hottest day.  I think Kiefer figures if he stretches out as much as possible then he'll be cooler.

The kittens have been doing lots of playing.  They are pros at getting up onto the couch and living room chairs.  They can pretty much jump up instead of climbing up.  Seamus and Kiefer are also very good at getting up onto the bed.  Mom has to be careful rolling around now because when she wakes there is always at least one kitten on the bed and usually Val or Fiona are on the bed too.

Mom has been doing some card making this week because she's going to a baby shower for Lemmy's future two legged brother or sister. (Lemmy is my favorite pug friend!).  Valentine likes to help with the card making but I don't think he's very good at it because I hear Mom telling him to "get down" or "stop it" a lot. From what I've seen he's really good at unwinding ribbon so it seems like he's a big help to me.

One of my blog readers, Ariel, bought the kittens some toys.  Mom says I'm not supposed to be jealous because babies get lots of presents and I need to remember how much I'm spoiled at Christmas by all my family and friends.  I know I'm pretty lucky and I'm happy that the kittens have lots to play with because then they don't try to jump on me! Ariel bought the best cat toys ever...according the what they have told me.  Kieran is the quietest kitten and hardly ever goes crazy playing with a toy.  As you can see, he loves these new toys!  We all thank Ariel very much for the gift!

Day 51/62/69 Lots Going On

We've been very busy the past few days and have had lots of adventures.  On Friday morning Mom was going to work and I was going to doggie day care.  Mom was on the Deerfoot to Southland off ramp and could see that traffic was slowing down ahead and a couple of cars off to the side of the road.  Mom thought there was an accident so she started to slow down.  Much to our surprise we saw a dog coming from Southland running into traffic on the Deerfoot.  Mom immediately pulled over, grabbed my leash off me and started to run towards where the dog was going.  Mom could see some people stopping and opening their doors but the dog kept going.  For those of you that aren't from Calgary; the Deerfoot, at this section, is 8 lanes of highway and at 7 am is packed with cars all trying to drive as fast as possible! By the time Mom had made it to where the dog was she had managed to hide under a SUV that was stopped in the middle northbound lane of the Deerfoot.  Mom got down on the ground but the poor dog was very, very scared.  A nice man had stopped behind the SUV and got out to help.  He went to the other side of the SUV so that the dog couldn't escape.  Mom crawled under the SUV and got my leash on the dog.  Then Mom and the man pulled the scared dog out from under the SUV. The lady that owned the SUV gave the dog and Mom a ride back to our car.  The dog was happy to get into our car but was still pretty scared.  She had a tag (Mom couldn't read her name) with a phone number, but no one answered.  Mom dropped me off at doggie day care and then took the dog to Animal Services.  Later she got a call from the owner who was at the Southland dog park when his other dog got attacked and this dog got scared and ran for her life.  He was very happy to hear that his dog was safe and went to pick her up.  Whew...what a start to the weekend!

Yesterday the kittens made their public debut by going to an adoptathon.  Valentine went with them, but Fiona and I stayed home.  Mom said the kittens had a great time.  They got lots of snuggles and play time with people that came to visit.  They were a bit unhappy during the car ride to the adoptathon but that was more because they were in a kennel than because they were in a car.  There was not a peep out of any of them, or Valentine, on the way home.  Everyone was so tired that they came home, ate and then slept for the rest of the night.  I told Mom that I didn't do anything while she was gone but I was so exhausted when she got home that she doesn't believe me!

Here's Kenna and I napping on the couch.  The kittens have figured out that the couch is the best place in the house to nap.  I didn't let them in on this bit of information because I like having the couch all to myself...well sharing with Mom I mean.

Seamus is usually the first one up on the couch.  She looks pretty comfortable lounging on it.

Today Mom and I ran errands.  Then we went to visit Sierra and her Mom.  I was very happy to see Sierra and Sierra was very happy to see both of us.  Sierra and I played 'how many times can we pee on the bush' and then lounged on the deck.  It's beautiful out today and it was hot sitting in the sun!  Now we're back home and having a lazy afternoon filled with more lounging and napping.  Since the weather is nice all the windows are open including the screen door leading to the deck.  This gives the kittens their first taste of warm, fresh air.

They seem quite interested in going outside and exploring a whole new world.  Mom says they can't go outside.  Mostly because they'll all take off in a different direction and she won't be able to keep track of them all.

Day 48/59/66 Valentine Goes to the Vet

Yesterday Valentine went to the Vet.  He's been having some discharge from his eyes and has been on medication for about the last month.  The means Mom has been putting ointment in his eyes three times a day.  It could probably go without saying, but Valentine hasn't liked it.  I don't even like it when Mom tries to clean my ears and that only happens once very couple of weeks. Anyway, the Vet said he looks good now so hopefully the discharge is gone for good.

It's amazing how much the kittens have grown in the past weeks.  They run really, really fast now and spend more time awake playing.  They're still too small to want to play with me but that's OK because Fiona got mad at me one day when we were all together so I'm not very comfortable with the kittens getting to close to me.

Here's a video of the kittens running around playing in the office/craft room.

There's still a lot of quiet time though.

It's nearly impossible to get a decent picture of all four kittens awake, still and looking at the camera.  This is a close as Mom has got.

As you might have noticed from the last picture and certainly from this picture, the kitten's eyes are no longer bright blue.  Their eyes now look different colors depending on how the light hits them.  They are mostly this grey/green color but are starting to turn more green every day.

Day 41/52/59 Valentine's up for Adoption!

I forgot to mention on my last post that Valentine is up for adoption! It would be great if Valentine could be adopted with Fiona so that's what we're all hoping for. We'd even be happy if he went to a home with another friendly cat for him to play with.

Now that the kittens have mastered the stairs Mom is constantly searching for where they are.  Thankfully our house is foster proof so she's not worried about them getting into places they shouldn't but she'd still like to keep an eye on them.  Today we all spent most of the day keeping Mom company while she worked.

As you can see most all the cats look pretty comfy on the blanket.  Except of course for Seamus. Because, well...Seamus is Seamus.  She is off sleeping in a corner by herself.  She's a bit of a silly kitten, which is why she has a bit of a silly name.

Good thing there is a cat bed in the office or I'd have no where to nap!  It's not as bad as it seems. I actually quite like this bed and nap in it a lot.  Don't tell the cats though because I want them to think I'm suffering for their comfort!

Mom and I went to the AARCS warehouse last weekend to get some supplies.  Mom was lucky enough to buy a couple of larger cat toys off of Kijiji but she's always looking for something interesting for the kittens to play with.  She saw a couple of these at the warehouse and was hoping that the kittens would like one.  It's been a huge hit for everyone!  Even I like it.  Although I get frustrated because I can't get the ball out and then I cry.  What?  I'm not too proud to admit that real pugs cry!

The kittens really like to sit in the middle part.  Mom says whatever keeps them still for a minute or two is good for her.

Day 38/49/56 Getting Bigger

Mom says she's very sorry for not posting for so long.  She's been spending far too much time playing with kittens and not enough time typing for me!  In her defence, the weather has been nice and we've been going to the dog park so I've forgiven her.  We've been to the dog park a couple of times with Sierra and it was great that we got to see her again.  She's settling in with her new family very well.  I think she's even starting to like cats.

The kittens have been getting bigger every day and learning new things.  This week they learned how to use the litter box, which Mom says is a pretty big deal.  She didn't see Fiona show them how to use it and Mom is amazed that they just knew how to use it all on their own.  They also learned how to climb stairs and a couple of them learned how to scale the side of the bed.  Yesterday they all got their nails trimmed so they won't be able to get up onto the bed.  They didn't get their nails trimmed for this reason, but more so that they will stop ripping Mom to shreds with their little sharp claws.

They are all eating well too.  Seamus and Kenna are still gobbling up the soft food.  Kieran and Kiefer have still not eaten a single bite of it.  They smell it and act repulsed.  Mom softened some kibble but they wouldn't eat any of it either.  They've gone straight to eating the hard kibble.  At first Kieran would just lick all the pieces in the bowl but now Mom hears crunching so they are definitely eating it.  They also drink a bit of water.  Fiona is still feeding them lots so no one is going hungry that's for sure.

After lots of exploring everyone gets pretty tired.  They can go full speed for about 30 minutes and then it's nap time.

Sometimes they all like to snuggle up together.  They all love the cat bed!  This is where they sleep at night now.

Sometimes they go off and find a quiet place to sleep on their own.  Seamus tried to get up one more set of stairs but was too tired to make it all the way.

Kiefer found a pillow to sleep on.
Kenna likes to sleep by the couch.  Yesterday Mom searched all over because she was sure Kenna went down stairs, but found her sleeping behind the couch.

Kieran didn't feel like having a nap so he didn't get his picture taken.

Day 30/41/48 The Kittens Get Some Soft Food

Today the kittens got some soft food.  I wasn't allowed in the room while they were eating because Mom thought I would try to eat the food.  She was probably right.  Valentine wasn't allowed in either so I didn't feel too bad.

As you can see Seamus thinks the soft food is very good.  She dove right in, as did Kenna.  Kiefer and Kieran didn't want to eat any food. Later in the day Kieran was checking out the water bowl but Mom thinks he might have been breathing it in rather than drinking it.

My good buddy Gord and Shirley came over for a visit this afternoon.  We all went to see the kittens but I was too excited and step on a kitten's tail by mistake.  Boy oh boy did Fiona let me have it!  She hissed at me and smacked me in the face before I even knew what was going on.  I really didn't mean it but my good buddy Gord and I went to hang out outside anyway.

Mom took some good pictures over the past few days.

Valentine looks waaay too comfortable.

Seamus and Kenna checking out some toys
 Kiefer looking handsame as ever.
Kieran showing off his beautiful blue eyes.

And last, but not least, me checking out the blanket while Kenna tries to sneak up on me.  She's not very stealthy but Mom says she'll get a lot better so I better watch out.

Day 26/37/44 Lemmy Comes to Visit

Last night one of my pug friends, Lemmy, came to visit.  I was really excited to have a buddy to play with for awhile as I miss having a foster dog.  Mom says soon enough the kittens will want to play.  I want to play with them very much, but they're still to little.

Lemmy's Mom got to see the kittens while Lemmy and I played.  Mom said that's the reason they came to visit but I'm sure it was really to see me.

The kittens are getting a lot bigger and are moving around quicker.  Not fast, but quicker than they were.  They are also starting to play with one another.

The kittens are getting cuter every day too!

This is Seamus.

Today she learned how to climb up Mom's leg.  She said it wasn't as much fun for her as it was for Seamus.

Kenna.

Kenna has the strangest coat.  It's like she always has bed head.  Mom was concerned perhaps she wasn't getting as much attention from Fiona as the others, but Fiona grooms her and takes very good care of her. Kenna just has bad hair.

Kiefer.

He has the bluest eyes of all the kittens but undoubtably they'll turn a green color when he's a bit older.  He'll still be just as handsome.

And Kieran.

Kieran has learned that the cat bed is a great place to hang out.  He had a snooze in it all by himself for about an hour.

Day 23/34/41 On The Move

It sure is quiet around the house without Sierra.  Thankfully Valentine has come out of his shell and he's started to play with me so I've got a new buddy. Mostly we like to hang out on the blanket together while Mom is working.

This works out well unless Valetine decides to bite my tail!  Maybe that is OK in the cat world, but in the dog world that's not acceptable. This is not the way friends should treat one another.

Mom has been taking more videos of the kittens since they are starting to move around a fair bit.

They've been moving around the house too.  Earlier in the week Fiona moved them into the bedroom closet.  Mom isn't sure why since we all go into the bedroom on a regular basis so she's not moving them to a 'safer' or 'quieter' spot.  Mom doesn't want them in the bedroom closet so after a couple of days she moved them into the closet in the spare room.  She made it exactly like in the bedroom closet and Fiona was happy in there for a day...then she moved them back to the bedroom closet.  Mom says that's where they can stay until they start really moving around and/or start eating solid food and therefore need to learn how to use the litter box.

Mom still took some cute photos of the kittens though.

Kiefer is looking particularily handsome in this photo.

Day 18/29/36/73 Sierra's Been Adopted!

That's right....Sierra's been adopted!  Mom's good friend/my best buddy Gord's daughter adopted Sierra. So she'll still be part of the family. I'll get to see her lots and Mom said that there are already plans for Sierra to come stay with us while her Mom is out of town for a few days. AND, if Mom and Sierra's Mom go out of town together then we'll both get to stay with my best buddy Gord. Oh, just wait, Mom says that hasn't been discussed with my best buddy Gord yet.  Anyway, we're all really happy for Sierra.

As you might recall, LT was going to adopt Sierra a while ago but Sierra wasn't very nice to her cats. Nicky came to observe Sierra and give some tips on how to change Sierra's association with cats. Mom has been working with Sierra and Sierra got to the point where she liked Valentine and Fiona. She even tried to get Valentine to play with her.  I'm glad that Sierra has decided cats are OK. I've always liked cats and Valentine is becoming my favourite because he's starting to play with me. Last night we had a good game of chase around the coffee table. Valentine was chasing me. I know it's not right to chase cats.

I really like the foster kittens as well. I got to visit with them last night. I sat very patiently and Kieran came up to me. Then I got quite flustered and didn't know what to do.

Day 16/27/34/71 I Get to Meet the Kittens!

I finally got to see the kittens that Mom has been talking about!

Mom said I did a very good job of not getting too close. In all honesty, I don't know what the fuss is about. They're pretty small and didn't do anything. I was more interested in checking out the rest of the room.

Everyday I get to go in and see the kittens again.  Today they were moving around a bit and I'm understanding why they might be so interesting.  I sat down and watched them move around the kennel for about 5 minutes before I got bored.  Mom said my little puggy tail was going a mile a minute.

Mom says the kittens get cuter every day. Especially now that their eyes are open.  They seem more aware of their surroundings and although Mom isn't sure how much they can see they can definitely hear.

They still sleep a lot though.  They're only awake for about 5 or 10 minutes before they all have to have a snooze again.

Day 12/23/31/67 Eyes are Opening

Mom has been trying to determine the sex of the kittens.  She said it's harder than it sounds because they're so little and they are 'built' differently than dogs.  I bet if she sniffed their butts she could figure it out.  That's what I do and it works pretty good for me!

She's been back and forth a couple of times but has figured out that the tabbies are female and the black ones are male. Their names, from top to bottom, are Kenna, Kiefer, Seamus and Kieran.  Mom says she knows Seamus is a boy's name but she has been calling this one Seamus since right after she was born.  Maybe we'll change it to Shea.

Monday afternoon Mom said that she noticed a couple of the kittens were starting to open their eyes.

This little kitten, Kenna, only had her right eye open.  She managed to get the other one open yesterday.

Seamus had both eyes open on Monday.

Mom thought she saw Kieran's eyes open this morning but didn't have a chance to get a good look before she had to leave for work.

The kittens are doing lots of moving around.  They are crawling around more quickly and frequently get turned over on their backs.  This leads them to get confused and crawling in the wrong direction.  Then the crying starts and they are quite upset until they can make their way back to the rest of the group.

There's still lots of sleeping going on though.
